See You When I See You

"See You When I See You" - 5/21/26

It is the person who you are and
It is the way you love yourself and
It is the way you walk the walk and
It is the way you listen well and

It is the way you ask good questions
Pondering not just what but why
It is the shape of all your fingers
Outlining drumbeats on my thigh

It is the humor in your monologues
Even when they flirt with doubt
Taking it all with grains of salt as
Smooth as a good mosaic grout

It is the way you rhapsodize on cue
About friendships and sourdough
Leaving me bittersweetly missing
Sea-shards of you I barely know

It is the way you asked to kiss me
At the same moment I was hoping
It is your courage every minute
Slaying sly mechanisms’ coping

With the sweet mischief of becoming
Something akin to a moon rise
It is the lightness of your kindness
Set in the blackness of your eyes

So I will “see you when I see you”
I don’t know when or how or where
But I will see you like a Sardonyx
Deep in my mind’s eye nestled there

And I will feel you like an ocean
Wrapping around my desert-heart
In the meantime of now’s whenever
In the surrendering of art
